Viva Magenta: Pantone colour of the year 2023

Pantone has just revealed the hottest colour of the year for 2023. This year, the trending shade is Viva Magenta 18-1750, a reddish pink which, according to the US company that created the famous colour matching system, will be all the rage in decoration, design and fashion in 2023. This vibrant tone evokes optimistic energy, offering the perfect counter to today's turbulent times.

Pantone says “Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”

Is your place due a glow-up? If it does, look no further than Viva Magenta, Pantone's colour of the year for 2023. A colour that vibrates with vim and vigour. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Pantone says “Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative”.

Viva Magenta is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family, as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known. Plenty of people will be adding Viva Magenta accents to their homes, but only the boldest will fill their spaces with this vibrant shade.

Pantone

Since the year 2000

Pantone started the tradition of announcing its Colour of the Year back in the year 2000. Every year, the decision - eagerly anticipated by the world of design - is made by a panel of forty leading experts in artistic and visual trends. The team is headed up by Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman, Vice President Laurie Pressman and Colour Consultant David Shah.

The process begins with an arduous task of observation and investigation, branching out from art and decoration to embrace fashion, cinema, graphic arts and design, and any other discipline where colour plays a key role. The team also looks at social movements, political changes, the economy, global events, lifestyle trends, the top travel destinations and the social initiatives that are shaping the future of the world.

Once all this data has been processed and analysed, the panel of experts identifies the colour family from which it will subsequently pick the colour that best represents the global landscape. The final step is to pick the perfect name for the shade. A name that often conjures up a whole host of images and emotions, just like this year's pick: Viva Magenta.
